Dads and Sons-Arm Wrestling

What a precious relationship God intends for Dads and Sons.  Sons can learn so much from watching their dads, from imitating them, from interacting with them and more. Even seemingly unimportant things can impart important influences into a son's life. This is also true in a daughter's life, but this post addresses the issue of sons. :)

We have 4 sons and 2 daughters and each one is a blessing. Each one is also quite unique.

One example with the sons is that one of our sons LOVES to rough house with his dad... he is almost as tall as his dad and he loves to test his strength with his dad... they actually enjoy this kind of thing. My brain has a hard time figuring that out, but I enjoy seeing it in my guys. It can be physical wrestling... or chess ...... or other games.... or math problems... or whatever. There is a challenge there and a competitiveness and they thrive on it.

The one son loves the physical rough housing, but another son HATES the physical rough housing... I am not sure why, but he truly hates it.  However, he really likes arm wrestling and running (racing  :)   his dad.  There is still the competition... and they are still learning. The lessons can be many... the bonding as boys change to young men.... good sportsmanship... apologies.... how to be gentle with the girls of the family.... etc.  All of the guys enjoy some kind of competiveness with their dad... in a good natured way, not a mean way.

My husband used to "let them win" sometimes... at chess, arm wrestling and more. He delighted in dragging out the arm wrestling.... letting them get his arm almost to the table, then he exerted his strength and still won. We all laughed at these good natured fun times. He has been telling me that he isn't letting them win anymore.... and their young strength can almost take him, so now he is working hard to defend his championship title in the family.... and yet he is also rejoicing at their growing strength. I LOVE seeing this... I like that my husband and sons actually enjoy this... it is special for the guys.

Anyway, in this match... my husband still won... although he said he did have to work for it. :) You can see the young strong muscles in our son's arm on the left in the picture at the top... it won't be long before he can win. This son IS taller than his dad now... so many milestones.

It was good for both of them. They need to develop strength.... physical strength.... and even more importantly, spiritual strength... they need to learn to walk with the Lord in good times and in hard. They need to learn to be steadfast...(I love that word). I am glad they are learning from their dad..... and having fun in doing so. :)

Thank you for joining me and I hope you have a wonderful week. :)

  2. What a wonderful relationship they must have. My husband used to arm wrestle with our no 2 son until he got a bit hurt (didn't tell son that) now they just love working together and no 2 on arm wrestles with his brother in law. Thanks for sharing this at Good Morning Mondays. Blessings

  4. Arm wrestling - I haven't seen this since my husband and son used to do it, and before that my brothers with Dad. Glad to see the boys still do it.

  5. Your post brought a smile to my face and made me think of my three nephews....they are all so different from one another. The oldest loves snowboarding, skateboarding, and snowmobiling. The middle one is very studious and enjoys baking with his mom {he is not an outdoors kind-of-kid}, and the youngest is very....tough. He is only 7, but he acts like he could take on the world.

Isn't it neat to see how God makes each one of us unique with our own personalities :) Thanks for sharing and enjoy your day!
