A Romantic Hairstyle and Lace Dress

Oh, what fun...  my young lady daughter who just a few years ago liked more "tomboy" things.... now enjoys dressing up sometimes.

She wanted to have her hair curled to look nice with her  beautiful lacy dress she planned to wear for church.

It started with putting sponge rollers in her hair the night before. Her older sister put the rollers in her wet hair, so that by morning she would have curls.

There were 61 rollers! This daughter has a LOT of hair! I remember sleeping on those pink rollers when I was a kid... it wasn't too comfortable. She did say that she didn't sleep very well.  :)The things we do to have curls!

This morning, my older daughter is shown here taking the rollers out of her hair.

We have curls!!!

I pulled curls to the top and back and held them in place with bobby pins. A little here...a little there... it was starting to get that romantic look. :)

We put a pretty comb at the top and called it done. She looked beautiful... of course she always does, but this was special....

Lace dress, curls in her hair, pearl earrings...  the stuff of princess dreams.

By the way, a couple of her brothers didn't like the curls... they prefer her hair as it usually is which is a bit wavy and a bit straight, not curly.
Brothers can be like that... but they tolerate the curls and really like that she dresses in such a feminine way. Of course, they rarely TELL her that!   :)

This pretty and romantic hairstyle takes a little longer than braids or other types of hairstyles, but it is special and worth the extra effort sometimes.  :)

The lace dress has a full skirt and works great for twirling! :)

The hairstyle was a success, although I should have put a few more bobby pins in it... after a couple of hours, some of the curls started to fall down a bit.

All in all it was a success..... but we won't do it very often. That just makes it all the more special.

How precious to see our children grow and enjoy life. What a blessing that God has entrusted these kids to us... we need to be so careful to raise them to honor the Lord.

Thank you for visiting today.

  1. She looks very pretty! I wore a lace dress yesterday too and felt super feminine.

    1. It is fun and she sure enjoyed feeling so special. I'm glad you also enjoyed your special dress... thank you for visiting. :)

  2. This is beautiful for a special day! Love the curls.

    1. Thank you.... it sure was special! :)

  3. Love her curls. I slept on those rollers too. They were not comfortable.
Thanks for sharing at Over The Moon Party.

    1. They sure looked nice, but you are right... they are not comfortable. My mom sleeps on the hard curlers w/ all of the things poking out... I have NO idea how she can handle that! :)

  4. I am a Victorian soul and Totally love this!! Lace is coming back in fashion and soon the romantic style will be back in home decor. It has never been out of style in my home...

    1. It is special... my oldest daughter said one thing she loves about Easter Sunday is that she can wear such beautifully romantic outfits and it is "normal" for that day. :) She was ill this year and not able to go or dress up, but enjoyed seeing her younger sister dress up. I am thankful my daughters like to look so feminine much of the time.

  5. Her hair and the dress are so pretty! I've used sponge rollers many times myself, they set a great curl! Thank you Joy for attending the #WednesdayAIMLinkParty. I shared your post on Facebook, Google+, Pinterest, and Twitter.

    1. Thank you... God provided that beautiful dress at a garage sale and what a special treat to find it in her size and be able to add the hairstyle with it. Thank you for sharing... I really appreciate it. :)

  6. I love the pretty hair style and lace dress. Thanks for sharing at C&C with J&J.

    1. Thank you... and thank you for the link up party. :)

  7. This is such an adorable look! I would love to do my hair like that and find a cute lace dress like that for a special occasion someday!

    1. Thank you... when I want to do something like that, I pray about it and it is amazing how many times He does make a way for it to happen. :)

  8. What a beautiful hairstyle and a lovely dress your daughter has. It is so much fun to have daughters and have them dress up!

    1. I agree! I had much responsibility as a child and I never liked dolls.. what was the point of a doll when I had real children and babies to take care of at a young age.... BUT when I had my first daughter, I learned how fun it was to dress up my precious little girl. I may have overdone it a bit, but I learned. :)

  9. Aw, she looks very beautiful! The dress, the curls . . . very special indeed! So fun to transform from tom-boy to a lovely little lady, even if it was a little hard to sleep - it's worth it sometimes :)

  10. You did a wonderful job with her hair. I have a set of those rollers for when I travel, they are great. Very sweet young girl and the dress is lovely. A nice mom and daughter project.
