Charming or Ugly???

We have had a bit of a good-natured debate going on in our home....

The girls and I think this bit of clematis over the mailbox is charming..... my sons think it is "ugly", "messy" etc. My husband hasn't given his opinion yet, although he has liked it in the past. :)

I am not super fond of vines as they can tend to take over..... but we have trimmed this back and it just looks..... "charming"-at least to the girls of the family. :)

Just a bit of green over the top....  and toward the back.... not where it will interfere with the mailman doing his/her job.

In late summer, the vine will have flowers like these. These are actually from an arbor that was covered with them last year - it was so beautiful. The mailbox wouldn't have nearly this many.... and we will keep it trimmed.

So, anyway.... do you have an opinion about it?

Does it look charming, pretty, etc to you?..... or does it look ugly, messy, etc to you?

It is the "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" issue and we are having fun with it. If you have an opinion on it, I would love to hear it.....

God has made us all different....even in what we like. What a creative God He is.

Thank you for visiting my blog today.... I hope you have a GREAT day. :)

  2. It's charming. I have a clematis that grows around our lamp post. I do have to trim/tie it up each year. I am in favor of clematis on the fence, around the lamp post and around the mailbox (now that I have seen yours).

    1. I do have to keep it trimmed around the mailbox so it doesn't get out of control..... but it does look nice and the girls and I enjoy it. Thank you for visiting. :)

  7. I think it looks lovely! We don't have mailboxes like that here in the UK, we just have the type that is like a slot in the front door. I think it's really pretty with the vine over it :)

    1. Thank you... I like it that way... a slot in the front door would be handy, but just not the same for a climbing vine. :) Sorry it has taken me so long to reply to this...

  10. I like it. I think I would let a bit more of it grow over the mailbox.

You know, towards the back, like it is, out of the way.

    1. Actually, it does grow more and more and I have to cut it back later in the summer..... or it would get in the way. :) I like it better with more growth also... just not too much. Thank you for visiting and I am sorry for not answering sooner.

  13. I like it. I have things planted around my mailbox too. The only problem is when the bees come to pollinate, they get kind of close to our mail carrier! Enjoy your lovely vine.

    1. Yes, ours can do that also... so we have to be diligent to keep it cut back away from the front of the mailbox. :) Thank you for visiting.

  16. Why, it's just a charming as it can be....I love it and when it fills out a little, with a little pruning away from the door of the mailbox, it is going to be past charming and into personality plus. :)
    I love it.
